About Paris and its region

https://www.visitparisregion.com/en

Location

CentraleSupélec is located 30km to the south of Paris. ICDEA will be held in the Eiffel Building, 8 rue Joliot-Curie, 91190 Gif-sur-Yvette.

How to travel to the campus:

A - Best software :

citymapper (phone application and website for computer):  it is available in English, extremely accurate, aware of the public transport disturbances in real-time. Select the destination : "CentraleSupélec - Bâtiment Eiffel - Université Paris-Saclay", this is precisely where the conference is.

B - Prerequisites about the public transport used

In order to go to the campus with public transport, taking both RER (commuter train) and bus are mandatory.

Regarding the RER:

  1. beware of the axis: e.g. North (“Nord”) versus South(“Sud”) for RER B, in major stations such as Châtelet-Les Halles and Gare du Nord, the platforms are different and far from each other. If you come from Paris or an airport, you need to head to the South to go to the campus, thus RER B Sud.
  2. For a given axis, beware of the directions: a train is defined by its terminal. For the campus, take a train heading towards: SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or MASSY-PALAISEAU or ORSAY-VILLE.
  3. Some trains skip stations, do not worry, the stations where there are bus stops for the campus are never skipped.

Regarding the bus:

  1. A bus is defined by its line number and its directions, i.e. its final destination.

C - Access

Access from Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), 1hour30:

Enter in any of the 2 RER B stations near the airport: “Aéroport Ch. De Gaulle 2” or “Aéroport Ch. De Gaulle 1 », take the train RER B Sud (=South) in direction SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or MASSY-PALAISEAU or ORSAY-VILLE. Your train will go across Paris city center, thus do the same as the case RER B from “access from Paris”.

Access from Orly airport, 30 minutes:

Take ORLYVAL, stop at ANTONY, then take RER B Sud (=South) at ANTONY. Do the same as from “access from Paris” for the RER B case.

Access from Paris, 1hour:

2 possibilities: RER B or RER C.

RER B:

take the train RER B Sud (=South) with direction SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or MASSY-PALAISEAU or ORSAY-VILLE.

  1. Direction SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or ORSAY-VILLE : stop at LE GUICHET station. Then walk towards GARE DU GUICHET bus stop, take bus 9 with any of the 3 directions: GARE-DE-JOUY-EN-JOSAS or CAMPUS HEC or CHRIST DE SACLAY. Stop at MOULON. You are on the campus.
  2. Direction MASSY-PALAISEAU: stop at the MASSY-PALAISEAU station. Walk to the bus stop MASSY-PALAISEAU GARE, take either bus 91.06 or bus 91.10 with any of the directions: SACLAY-CHRIST DE SACLAY or GIF-SUR-YVETTE JOLIOT CURIE or SAINT-QUENTIN GARE. Stop at MOULON. You are on the campus.

RER C:

take the train RER C Est (=East), with direction MASSY-PALAISEAU, then do the same as for case 2 of the RER B case.

WARNING:

The RER C will have renovation works during the conference. Specifically, The RER C East going to MASSY-PALAISEAU will not work. Another RER C direction is possible but slow and cumbersome. Thus, we advise not to take the RER C, only the RER B.

The RER B will have renovation works during the conference :

All RER B Sud (=South) with direction SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or MASSY-PALAISEAU or ORSAY-VILLE will have their terminal stations at LES BACONNETS. A substitution bus is available to go from LES BACONNETS to MASSY-PALAISEAU. At MASSY-PALAISEAU, you can either directly take another bus as explained in the case 2 of the case RER B, or take again the RER B to go to LE GUICHET as explained in case 1 of case RER B.

Solution considering the renovation works:

the least cumbersome plan from Paris:

  1. Take RER B Sud (=South) in Paris, direction SAINT-RÉMY-LES-CHÉVREUSES or MASSY-PALAISEAU or ORSAY-VILLE or LES BACONNETS if it exists.
  2. Stop at terminal LES BACONNETS, follow the indication to walk to the substitution bus.
  3. Take the substitution bus of the RER B from LES BACONNETS to MASSY-PALAISEAU
  4. The substitution bus will arrive at the WEST of MASSY-PALAISEAU, but the following bus is at the EAST of MASSY-PALAISEAU, thus cross the station by taking the long bridge.
  5. Take either bus 91.06 or bus 91.10 with any of the directions: SACLAY-CHRIST DE SACLAY or GIF-SUR-YVETTE JOLIOT CURIE or SAINT-QUENTIN GARE. Stop at MOULON. You are on the campus.

For further information on the costs and itineraries, see the official site of RATP.

How to pay for public transport:

How to pay for public transport:

Buying a weekly pass is a must. Individual ticket prices to move outside of Paris city center are insane: a one-way ticket from Châtelet to Le Guichet with RER B is 4.45€, from CDG airport to Le Guichet with RER B: 14.05€. In comparison, a weekly all-zones subscription is 22.20€, with illimited access to most public transport in the city center and the region.

Process:

  1. Go to a sales office / RATP ticket offices, most metro/RER stations have one.
  2. Buy a Navigo Découverte Travel Card for 5€
  3. With a RATP ticket office or an automatic RATP machine, buy a weekly “toutes zones”/all-zones pass for 22.20€
  4. Write your last name and first name in the associate space on the card and put a photograph of you on it. Otherwise, if a controller arrests you, it’s a fine of 35€
  5. Move freely with this card

Beware, the weekly pass is a “Monday-to-Sunday” pass, not a 7-day pass, e.g., a weekly pass bought on Thursday is valid only 4 days. Lastly, “For the Navigo weekly travel pass, sales begin on the Friday preceding the week of validity, and end on the Thursday of the week for which they are valid.”

In the campus:

When you arrive at Moulon bus stop ("Arrêt Moulon"), walk on Noëtzlin street, alongside the park, to the main entrance of the Eiffel building.

"entrée principale" = main entrance
